Israel's outgoing home front defence minister says an attack on Iran would likely trigger a month-long conflict that would leave 500 Israelis dead.

Matan Vilnai told the Maariv newspaper that the fighting would be "on several fronts", with hundreds of missiles fired at Israeli towns and cities.

Israel was prepared, he said, though strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities had to be co-ordinated with the US.

Meanwhile, a US blogger has published what he says are Israel's attack plans.

Richard Silverstein told the BBC he had been given an internal briefing memo for Israel's eight-member security cabinet, which outlined what the Israeli military would do to prevent Iran developing nuclear weapons.

Targeting Tehran: 'US nearly daring Iran to strike first'

DHS Orders 1.4 Billion Rounds of Hollow Tip Ammo

Dept. of Homeland Security ordered 1.4 BILLION ROUNDS of hollow point ammunition. A department that has no Constitutional military or police force under their direction!!!! Why would they need this?
In March of this year, ATK announced that it had received an ID/IQ award from the Department of Homeland Security for 450 million rounds of .40cal jacketed hollow point ammunition to be shipped to various locations in the U.S.

On 8/10/12, DHS issued an updated solicitation for 750 million more rounds, the greatest majority of it being hollow point type ammunition that includes handgun, rifle, and shotgun items. The Solicitation number is

HSFLGL-12-B-00003, with an original date of 7/18/2012. It must be urgent because potential vendors are required to respond by 8/20/2012.

Additionally, the Social Security Administration is soliciting contractors for 174,000 rounds of ".357 Sig 125 gr. bonded jacketed hollow point pistol ammunition". The National Oceanic and Atmospheric

Administration just ordered 46,000 rounds of hollow point ammunition. This totals over 1.2 BILLION rounds of the most lethal ammunition in the world being purchased by departments of our federal government that are NOT primarily responsible for the defense of the country, and don't have military forces.

The "cover story" is that all of this is for training and target practice. However, hollow points are not generally used for target practice. They are meant to maim and kill, and they are significantly more expensive than standard full metal jacket target ammunition. While we sincerely doubt that the cover is true, even if it were this training extravagance hardly seems a wise use of taxpayer monies.

More to the point, what is it that this incredibly absurd amount of ammunition is being used to prepare for? There are only two generally reasonable explanations:

1. DHS, under some Presidential order, has decided to become one of the primary defenders against an invasion of our country, and based on the timeframes noted in the solicitations feel that a threat is imminent.

This does not seem likely for several reasons. If that was the case, surely the administration and Congress would owe their bosses—WE THE PEOPLE—an explanation of this imminent threat and a plan. Second, we do not recall any Constitutional authority for this type of action on DHS' part. It would seem the DEFENSE DEPARTMENT might also have a problem with that. Lastly, we believe hollow point ammunition violates the Geneva Convention Rules of War.

OR

2. These agencies are preparing, under a paranoid internal plan, for some sort of major domestic event or civil unrest. Based on the ammo ordered, both in type and quantity, as well as other military equipment being solicited in large numbers, it appears the plan is to be ready and somewhat offensive in their approach to United States Citizens. The very people they are responsible to protect have now become the targets of hollow point ammunition, not allowed in WAR, by our own government. As silly as it may sound, this is more plausible than #1 above. How can that be?

8.6-magnitude earthquake strikes off Indonesia, triggering tsunami watch

– A tsunami watch was issued for countries across the Indian Ocean after a large earthquake hit waters off Indonesia on Wednesday, triggering widespread panic as residents along coastlines fled to high ground in cars and on the backs of motorcycles.

Some were crying. Others screamed "God as great" as they poured from their homes.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 8.6-magnitude quake was centered 20 miles beneath the ocean floor around 269 miles from Aceh's provincial capital.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said a tsunami watch was in effect for Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Myanmar, Thailand, the Maldives and other Indian Ocean islands, Malaysia, Pakistan, Somalia, Oman, Iran, Bangladesh, Kenya, South Africa and Singapore.

A tsunami watch means there is the potential for a tsunami, not that one is imminent.

Said, an official at Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency who goes by only one name, said a tsunami warning has been issued for cities all along the coast of Sumatra island.

There was chaos in the streets, with fierce shaking continuing for nearly four minutes.

"I was in the shower on the fifth floor of my hotel," Timbang Pangaribuan told El Shinta radio from the city of Medan. "We all ran out. ... We're all standing outside now."
He said one guest was injured when he jumped from the window of his room.

The tremor was felt in Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, Malaysia and India. High-rise apartments and offices on Malaysia's west coast shook for at least a minute.

Indonesia straddles a series of fault lines that makes the vast island nation prone to volcanic and seismic activity.

A giant 9.1-magnitude quake off the country on Dec. 26, 2004, triggered a tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed 230,000 people, nearly three quarter of them in Aceh.

HOW SANTORUM REJECTS THE CONSTITUTION

More than anything else, the U.S. Constitution is an outline of the concept of federalism. Federalism is the very basis, or is supposed to be the very basis, of American government. This doesn’t register one bit with Rick Santorum. Writes Ann Coulter:

Even when I agree with Rick Santorum, listening to him argue the point almost makes me change my mind.

I also wonder why he’s running for president, rather than governor, when the issues closest to his heart are family-oriented matters about which the federal government can, and should, do very little.

It’s strange that Santorum doesn’t seem to understand the crucial state-federal divide bequeathed to us by the framers of our Constitution, inasmuch as it is precisely that difference that underlies his own point that states could ban contraception.

Of course they can. States could outlaw purple hats or Gummi bears under our Constitution!

State constitutions, laws, judicial rulings or the people themselves, voting democratically, tend to prevent such silly state bans from arising. But the Constitution written by James Madison, et al, does not prevent a state’s elected representatives from enacting them.

The Constitution mostly places limits on what the federal government can do. Only in a few instances does it restrict what states can do.

A state cannot, for example, infringe on the people’s right to bear arms or to engage in the free exercise of religion. A state can’t send a senator to the U.S. Congress if he is under 30 years old. But with rare exceptions, the Constitution leaves states free to govern themselves as they see fit.

In New York City, they can have live sex clubs and abortion on demand, but no salt or smoking sections. In Tennessee, they can ban abortion, but have salt, creches and 80 mph highways. At least that’s how it’s supposed to work.

And yet when Santorum tried to explain why states could ban contraception to Bill O’Reilly back in January, not once did he use the words “Constitution,” “constitutionally,” “federalism,” their synonyms or derivatives. Lawyers who are well familiar with the Constitution had no idea what Santorum was talking about.


He genuinely does not seem to understand the Constitution’s federalist framework, except as a brief talking point on the way to saying states can ban contraception…

If he truly believed in the Constitution, Santorum wouldn’t be promoting big social programs out of the federal government, such as tripling the child tax credit exemption and voting for “No Child Left Behind.”

No federalist can support this man.

For those who claim to be “constitutional conservatives” supporting Santorum basically renders that label meaningless. Santorum has repeatedly attacked the 10th amendment, which most of the Founders considered the strongest emphasis possible of what the entire Constitution was really all about. I made this same point about Santorum, his ignorance of the Constitution and his rejection of federalism at The Daily Callerearlier this week.

Ron Paul Supporters look to convention

They are full-throated and full-throttle for the Texas congressman and Republican presidential hopeful.

Paul’s fans here are easy to spot and plan to stay busy through Super Tuesday. Though many aren’t traditionally associated with the Republican Party, their activities are common: sign waving in Cherokee and DeKalb counties, a rally in Marietta, a potluck dinner in Gwinnett. In cyberspace, Paul’s following is legion, and from Facebook and Twitter to Meetup.com, his supporters are voracious in their championing of the candidate.

Their attraction to the libertarian-leaning Paul is varied. Some love his record as a strict fiscal conservative who eschews tax increases and fights to lower the national debt. Others are drawn to his interest in moving the country’s currency back to the gold standard and still others love his foreign policy, which is centered around a withdrawal of most U.S. troops from around the world.

The same enthusiasm for Paul was there in 2008, when Paul also ran for president, yet he finished a distant fourth in the Georgia primary. This year, he again trails — polls show him in single digits — in the race for Georgia’s March 6 primary, but his supporters hope their influence in the state won’t end March 6.

Paul has a plan to remain relevant through the Republican National Convention this summer in Tampa. The blueprint goes beyond the primary to the GOP state convention in May, when Paul supporters will try to get themselves elected delegates to the national convention. If that happens, they could try to crash the party and force a floor fight for the GOP nomination.

In a strategy that’s being employed in other states, too, Paul’s Georgia supporters lay out the idea right on their website: “Take back the GOP from the ne’re-do-wells by becoming a Georgia GOP Delegate!” the site implores, complete with instructions on how to navigate the party’s rules.

Christopher Wall, a Johns Creek firefighter, is a Paul supporter seeking a ticket to Tampa.

“I’ll go as far as I can,” he said.

Wall, who will be a delegate to his county convention, said if the nomination comes down to a fight at the convention, anything can happen.

“It’s likely we’ll have a brokered convention,” he said.

Georgia’s Paul-backers are not alone. Paul has not campaigned in Georgia and is not expected to. Instead, he has focused on states that are awarding their delegates through caucuses, rather than primaries, because they are a higher payout for candidates who rely on grass-roots support.

Veterans for Ron Paul Rally at White House

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Current and former service members staged a rally outside the White House today in support of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.

Several hundred troops and their supporters attended the event. The veterans were men and women, young and old, some in uniform and some in plain clothes.

The demonstration was a mostly silent affair, with the veterans standing calmly at attention in rows. An organizer bellowed that each second of quiet was for every military suicide since President Obama took office. A second moment of silence was for each soldier to die abroad under the current commander in chief.

One protester held a sign reading “Don’t let anybody make you think that God chose America to be a policeman of the whole world.” The line was paraphrased from remarks by Dr. Martin Luther King regarding the Vietnam War.

There were few picket signs, but some tea party symbols were present.

The event concluded with an organizer parading the procession away, complete with color guard.

Ron Paul shares an unusually high percentage of supporters in the military compared to the other candidates and it shows in his campaign funding. The Center for Responsible Politics reports the candidate touted more than $95,000 between September 2011 and January in individual donations from current and former members of the military, higher than any other candidate. Obama comes in second at roughly $72,000.

It is an attribute the libertarian lawmaker is quick to highlight on the campaign trail.

As a former Air Force flight surgeon, he is the only former serviceman campaigning for president.

UN Should Weigh In on Iran

Brazil's top diplomat said he has asked UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to consider weighing in on the legality of a possible preemptive strike on Iran.

"No doubt adding an additional flashpoint of military action in a volatile region will greatly exacerbate tensions," Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota told Yahoo News in an interview in New York Tuesday. The international community should proceed "with the utmost caution." "There is a role for him in this," Patriota said he had proposed to the UN chief. "One sometimes hears the expression, 'all options are on the table.' But some actions are contrary to international law."

Patriota's comments come as the United States, United Kingdom and Russia have asked Israel both privately and publicly not to carry out a preemptive strike against Iran's nuclear facilities.

Patriota has played a key role as architect of Brazil's foreign policy amid the country's rapid rise into a major global power. Last month, Brazil surpassed the United Kingdom as the sixth largest economy in the world. In another sign of the dizzying pace of the country's rise on the global scene, Brazil has roughly doubled the number of its embassies and consulates around the world in just the past ten years.

Earlier this month, Brazil joined Washington and 11 other nations at the UN Security Council in voting in favor of a resolution that would have condemned Syria's Bashar al-Assad for his brutal crackdown. But Russia and China vetoed the measure, putting into disarray diplomatic efforts to try to stem the spiraling violence in Syria where more than 6,000 people have been killed in the eleven month uprising.

Russia warns Israel not to attack Iran

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia warned Israel on Wednesday that attacking Iran would be a disastrous and played down the failure of a U.N. nuclear agency mission to Tehran, saying there is still a chance for new talks over the Iranian atomic programme.

"Of course any possible military scenario against Iran will be catastrophic for the region and for the whole system of international relations," Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told a news conference.

It was one of Russia's starkest warnings against resorting to force, an option Israel and the United States have not ruled out if they conclude that diplomacy and increasing sanctions will not stop Iran from developing a nuclear bomb.

"I hope Israel understands all these consequences ... and they should also consider the consequences of such action for themselves," Gatilov said. "I hope a realistic approach will prevail, along with a sensible assessment."

Russia, China as well as many allies of the United States are concerned that any military action against Iran could engulf the Middle East in wider war, which would send oil prices rocketing at a time of global economic troubles.

Iran has threatened to retaliate for any attack, or even if it feels endangered, by closing the Strait of Hormuz, the conduit for Gulf oil exports crucial to the global economy, and hitting Israel and U.S. interests in the Middle East.

Tehran has refused to stop sensitive nuclear work such as uranium enrichment despite four rounds of U.N. sanctions and a slew of additional measures imposed by the United States and the European Union, which fear Tehran is seeking nuclear weapons. The Islamic Republic says its efforts to produce nuclear fuel are solely for electricity generation.

Iran has established an “operational relationship” with al-Qaida’s core leadership amid fears the terror organization is planning a spectacular attack against the West, according to a troubling new report.

Sky News reports that the attack could come in retaliation for the killing of Osama bin-Laden last year, or as retaliation for any strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities. And a likely target of the terrorist attack would be the Olympic Games to be held this summer in London.

Iran has been supplying al-Qaida with training in the use of advanced explosives, funding, and a safe haven “as part of a deal first worked out in 2009 which has now led to ‘operational capacity,’” the Sky News website disclosed.

Some Western intelligence agencies have been skeptical of an alliance between Iran and al-Qaida. But last year the Obama administration directly accused Iran of supporting the terrorist group, a report by the intelligence analysis organization LIGNET revealed in August.

At that time, the United States sanctioned six alleged al-Qaida operatives and accused Iran of allowing them to operate in Iran to conduct operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

One of those six was a Syrian known as Yasin al-Sura, leader of al-Qaida in Iran, LIGNET reported.

The Obama administration last year offered a $10 million reward for information leading to al-Sura’s whereabouts, and Iran responded by placing him in protective custody, sources told Sky News.

The website reported that top al-Qaida leader Ayman al Zawahiri is now “believed to be planning a ‘classic’ al-Qaida attack, simultaneously on multiple locations.”

2500 Marijuana Plants Seized in Plumas Lake Home

PLUMAS LAKE (CBS13) – Yuba County Sheriff’s Department deputies seized about 1,500 marijuana plants after serving search warrants in a Yuba County suburb on Thursday morning.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department’s Marijuana Eradication Team (METYU), with the assistance of NET-5 and the Yuba County SWAT team, served warrants at three locations in Plumas Lake, between Marysville and Sacramento.

Two residents were arrested from one of the homes located in the 1600 block of Notting Hill Way. They were identified as Guo Xiong Li, 34, and Jian Xiong Liu, 44, both of Sacramento.

How I feel about this:

Supposedly what was seized by law enforcement officials was estimated over $1 Million USD, and they wonder why the economy is bad? The people growing it were using the economy they learned in High School, Supply and Demand. They found out what was in demand here in California, and tried to supply it to those in need. Well that's illegal. It shouldn't be, because we are all entitled to a profit in a free trade market. They are doing the only thing they can with the resources available, and for which they shouldn't be imprisoned, but encouraged to continue, and succeed. After all the down-sizing at factories, and warehouses, the least they can do is allow us to grow and sell a highly sought commodity in today's Medical Marijuana Market. Pot simply won't do... Palin Isn't Convinced Romney Is Conservative

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said Sunday that while GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney "is a great candidate," he's still evolving as a conservative.

Palin is not yet convinced Romney is "instinctively" a constitutional conservative.

"I am not convinced and I don't think that the majority of GOP and independent voters are convinced," Palin told "Fox News Sunday." "And that is why you don't see Romney get over the hump. He's still in the 30-percentile mark when it comes to approval and primary wins and caucus wins. He still hasn't risen above that yet because we are not convinced."

Palin said she believes Romney is still "evolving" as a conservative after five years on the campaign trail and millions of dollars spent. But, she added, that's a high hurdle for all the candidates to demonstrate.

"He still needs to be able to articulate what his solutions are to the challenges facing America -- but not just Mitt. All four of them," she said.

ABC Blatantly Keeps Ron Paul Out of View

Today, I was looking at the ABC 2012 election coverage website, and they show every other candidate but Ron Paul. They are even showing news articles for Herman Cain and Michelle Bachman, But nothing for the guy who is second in the nationwide polls. For Ron Paul this is nothing new, but why would you continue reporting on the people that have already conceded? That would be like filming the Runner that fell, instead of filming the rest of the race.
