Obama's Counterterrorism Strategy Getting Slammed By Republicans
By ANDREW TAYLOR
WASHINGTON -- Republicans keep slamming President Barack Obama's push to move the government away from a war footing and refine and recalibrate counterterrorism strategy.
Capitol Hill Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina say Obama is projecting weakness at a time when the United States needs to show resolve against terror networks like al-Qaida.
The South Carolina Republican said Sunday that "at a time when we need resolve the most, we're sounding retreat."
Obama gave a major speech Thursday in which he said al-Qaida is "on the path to defeat" and he's signaling that he's reluctant to commit troops overseas to conflicts like Syria or other countries struggling with instability in the uncertain aftermath of the Arab Spring. He's also modifying policies on the use of unmanned drone aircraft to try to limit civilian casualties and is redoubling his longstanding – but so far unfulfilled – promise to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where many terrorism suspects are being held without formal charges.
Obama is trying to recast the image of terrorists from enemy warriors to cowardly thugs and move the United States away a state of perpetual war.

IRS Stalled Conservatives While Giving Liberals a Pass on Tax Exemptions
By Sandy Fitzgerald

Evidence is mounting that the Internal Revenue Service gave far better treatment to left-wing groups than those on the right, with data showing the agency approved dozens of liberal and progressive organizations as tax-exempt while leaving conservative groups hanging.
No tea party applications were approved in a 27-month period beginning February 2010. But numerous applications from liberal and progressive groups were given tax-exempt status during the same period, USA Today reported.
Some of those approved:
Bus for Progress, New Jersey nonprofit organization whose mission is to support "progressive politicians with the courage to serve the people's interests and make tough choices." The group, which uses a red, white and blue bus to "drive the progressive change," was approved as a social-welfare group in April 2011.
Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment, approved in September 2011. The group says it fights against corporate welfare and toward increasing the minimum wage.
Progress Florida, which lobbies the Sunshine State's legislature to expand Medicaid under the provisions of Obamacare, and was approved in January 2011.

First immigrants OK'd for deportation deferral program
First approvals of deportation deferral program come just two months before presidential election in which Hispanic vote almost certain to prove pivotal
(AP) WASHINGTON — Less than two months before a presidential election in which both parties are fighting for the key Hispanic vote, the Obama administration has approved the first wave of applications from young illegal immigrants hoping to avoid deportation and get a work permit.
The Homeland Security Department is notifying a small group of people this week that they have been approved to stay in the country for two years as part of President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The first approvals come just three weeks after U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services started accepting applications for the program Mr. Obama and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano first announced June 15.
In an internal document obtained by The Associated Press, the government had estimated previously that it could take months for each application to be reviewed and approved. So far, about 72,000 people have applied to avoid deportation.

Will Ron Paul make an independent run in 2012? · Hammer of Truth
Will Ron Paul make an independent run in 2012? · Hammer of Truth:
Will Ron Paul make an independent run in 2012?
The Daily Paul has the most wishful thinking opinion pieces up post-RNC: So we all know Ron is making a special announcement on Jay Leno on September 4th. I know many of us are hoping it’s that Ron is running Indy or third party. Some are hoping he will endorse Johnson.
I just got off the phone with someone very close to Ron and want to tell everyone that a third party run is possible. At this point that is not what the announcement is going to be. It’s also not a Johnson or Romney endorsement, so says my well placed source. Again, take it worth a grain of salt, but I trust that this person is close enough to Ron to know.
Up until now, I have believed that there was ZERO chance Ron would run third party. However, after my phone call I believe there is a glimmer of hope. It’s too late for Ron to get on the ballot as an Indy, however Johnson has said in the past that he would step aside for Ron."

Obama's Eligibility Still in Question
Evens the “ch’mos” who were in Fort Leavenworth with Lt. Col. Terry Lakin, the military physician who was court-martialed for refusing orders because he could not get confirmed Barack Obama’s eligibility to be commander in chief, recognized that Obama’s release of a Hawaiian birth document last year didn’t resolve the question.
That’s according to Lakin’s new book, “Officer’s Oath: Why my Vow to Defend the Constitution Demanded that I Sacrifice my Career.”
The just-released book explains what happened in his case, and more significantly, why.
The officer had served with distinction, but decided that based on the available information, he had questions about whether Obama is eligible to be commander-in-chief of the U.S. military and order soldiers into war.
He had tried for years to obtain confirmation through the channels inside the military, through his congressional representatives, and other available channels, to no avail.
So he decided that his oath of allegiance to the Constitution required him to refuse an order from the chain of command headed by Obama. That would, he thought, force the issue, and possibly get an answer.
He got an answer, but not to the question: He was court-martialed and removed from the military. He now has joined a civilian physicians’ practice where he sees patients daily.
Get the book about the officer who challenged Obama now, in Terry Lakin’s “Officer’s Oath.”
In his book, he relates that he was in Leavenworth serving what amounted to a 5-month sentence when Obama released the document he represented as a copy of his original Hawaiian birth documentation.
That’s the document that Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s investigators have concluded likely is a forgery.
But other prisoners called his attention to the news report about Obama’s action and comments, and then asked him.
“One question, Terry.”
“Shoot.”
“All you were asking for was a birth certificate, correct? If Obama had nothing to hide, how come he didn’t release it a long time ago?”
“I guess what they say is right: no one knows a con job better than a convict,” Lakin wrote.
He addresses his case in chapters titled, “Of Paramount Importance,” “The Truth Matters,” “Doing What is Right,” “Crossing the line,” “Duty, Honor, Country,” and “Walking Righteous.”
The episode with the question from one of the “ch’mos,” (child molesters) comes in the chapter titled 27 April 2011, the date Obama released the document and posted it on the White House website.
Lakin notes that Obama claimed to have “had every official in Hawaii … confirm that, yes, in fact, I was born in Hawaii.”
“‘Every official in Hawaii’? I guess the president did not consult with Tim Adams. During the 2008 election cycle Adams served as senior elections clerk for the city and county of Honolulu,” Lakin wrote.
Adams stated that, “There is no hospital record of his birth in Honolulu … and the Hawaii Department of Health told us in the Elections Office that there was no birth certificate.”

CalPERS says Illegal funds are now Legal?
STOCKTON - While in violation of the city charter, retirement benefits that Stockton paid for years on behalf of some elected leaders were perfectly legal according to state law, which overrides any local rules.
So representatives of the California Public Employees' Retirement System said Thursday.
Called CalPERS, the state agency manages pensions for 1.6 million public workers, including a longstanding contract with Stockton.
City leaders said they will now undertake bringing Stockton's CalPERS contract in line with its charter. Until that happens, they also will discourage any newly elected Stockton leaders from enrolling.
CalPERS already has agreed to remove from its rolls three city current elected officials - councilmen Elbert Holman and Dale Fritchen and Mayor Ann Johnston - if each so chooses. The public-pension agency will credit Stockton the funds contributed for each.
"I will disenroll," Johnston said. "Absolutely."
Fritchen said Thursday he was still fuzzy on the details. The three leaders expect a full debriefing Monday at City Hall. But Fritchen said he's intent on doing whatever is right by taxpayers.
Fritchen repeatedly has described dysfunction at City Hall, which led to the controversy, "frustrating."
"I keep saying that," he said. "I can't think of any other word."

Who's enrolled
Stockton mayors and council members enrolled in the CalPERS retirement fund, and the amount the city contributed:
Mayors *Bold Denotes if official is still in office.
• Joan Darrah: $7,682.62 (collected retirement, now deceased)
• Ann Johnston: $45, 538.61 (not retired)
*Why is her dollar amount so much Higher than the rest of the people that have yet to retire? Maybe because she has been in
office longer than the City Charter's Limit. So she has almost $46,000 extra in her retirement, don't you think her "expert eye for finding the
problem" that she touts she has would've caught that amount in her should be non-existent pension??
• Gary Podesto: $7,018.43 (collecting retirement)
Council members
• Steve Bestolarides: $15,475.79 (not retired)
• Dan Chapman: $15,561.42 (not vested)
• Dale Fritchen: $12,189.52 (still accruing retirement)
• Gary Giovanetti: $8,326.68 (not vested)
• Ted Gonzales: $3,003.95 (not vested; cashed out his own money)
• Elbert Holman: $12,189.91 (still accruing retirement)
• Clem Lee: $15,622.18 (not vested)
• Leslie Martin: $23,599.99 (not retired yet)
• Sylvia Sun Minnick: $2,269.38 (collecting retirement)
• Victor Mow: $4,194.24 (collecting retirement)
• Rebecca Nabors: $15,566.89 (cashed out)
• Richard Nickerson: $4,486.29 (collecting retirement)
• Melvin Panizza: $4,297.94 (collecting retirement)
