LAS VEGAS (AP) — Mitt Romney has won the Republican presidential nomination after years of fighting, though his triumph was partially overshadowed by the celebrity businessman who helped him along the way.
As primary voters in Texas on Tuesday pushed him past the 1,144-delegate threshold(read the comments) he needed to win the nod, Romney was raising money in Las Vegas with Donald Trump, the real estate mogul who has stoked doubts about whether President Barack Obama was born in America.
It's the start of a weeklong push to raise millions of dollars during a West Coast swing as Romney looks to bring in as much cash as possible ahead of a ramped-up campaign schedule later this summer.
"Mr. Trump, thank you for letting us come to this beautiful hotel and being with so many friends. Thank you for twisting the arms that it takes to bring a fundraiser together," Romney told the approximately 200 people who paid thousands to attend the event at the Trump International Hotel. "I appreciate your help."
The Trump event and surrounding controversy overshadowed the Texas primary win that officially handed Romney the nomination, a triumph of endurance for a candidate who came up short four years ago and had to fight hard this year as voters flirted with a carousel of GOP rivals. According to the Associated Press count, Romney surpassed the 1,144 delegates needed to win the nomination by winning at least 97 delegates in the Texas primary.
The former Massachusetts governor reached the nomination milestone with a steady message of concern about the U.S. economy, a campaign organization that dwarfed those of his GOP foes and a fundraising operation second only to that of Obama, his Democratic general election opponent. He outlasted a half-dozen Republican opponents to clinch the nomination later in the calendar than any recent GOP nominee.
Romney must now fire up conservatives who still doubt him while persuading swing voters that he can do a better job fixing the nation's struggling economy than Obama. In Obama, he faces a well-funded candidate with a proven campaign team in an election that will be heavily influenced by the economy.
Romney will continue his push to raise money with fundraisers this week in wealthy California enclaves like Hillsborough, near San Francisco, and Beverly Hills. He has at least one major fundraising event every day for the rest of the week, as well as a series of smaller events.
But the focus Tuesday was on Trump, who once led polls of GOP primary voters. He endorsed the former Massachusetts governor just before the February Nevada caucuses, offering his support at a morning endorsement event in ballroom in the hotel that bears his name. In the same room Tuesday night for the fundraiser, Trump introduced Romney. He steered clear of the "birther" issue as he spoke to donors, though just hours earlier he had repeated his doubts about the authenticity of the birth certificate that shows Obama was born in Hawaii.
"A lot of people do not think it was an authentic certificate," Trump told CNN of Obama's birth certificate. When CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer told Trump he was "beginning to sound a little ridiculous," Trump responded, "I think you sound ridiculous."
Such allegations about Obama's birthplace have been repeatedly proven false.(NO.. fact is: he hasn't provided a real one yet.) The state of Hawaii recently re-affirmed that he was born there.(NO...fact is: AZ and Team Arpaio Awaits response from Hawaii.)
Trump's comments, repeated in several media interviews Tuesday, overshadowed Romney's attempts to focus on failed stimulus projects and federal money given to companies like Solyndra, the green energy company that received millions from the government only to go bankrupt.
Romney hasn't condemned Trump's assertions. On Monday night, he told reporters aboard his campaign plane that Trump is entitled to his opinion. Even as Trump-related criticism from Democrats and Republicans intensified in recent days, Romney showed no sign of distancing himself from the polarizing figure.
"I don't agree with all the people who support me. And my guess is they don't all agree with everything I believe in," Romney said. "But I need to get 50.1 percent or more."
Trump remains popular among the conservative base and boasts ties to deep-pocketed donors. He has recorded automated phone calls for Romney, hosted a fundraiser with Romney's wife, Ann, in New York, and pressed the candidate's case as a television surrogate.
The Obama campaign released a video Tuesday criticizing what it considers Romney's unwillingness to stand up to Trump and the more extreme elements in his party.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, once a rival for the GOP nomination and now a Romney supporter, suggested that the Trump issue will not derail Romney's campaign.
"Gov. Romney's not distracted. The Republican Party's not distracted," said Gingrich, who attended the Trump fundraiser. "We believe that this is an American-born job-killing president. Other people may believe that he was born somewhere else and still kills jobs."
Gingrich was one in a series of rivals who challenged Romney during the prolonged primary fight.

America 2012: The Supreme Court Has Made It Legal For The Police To…
Last week the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that police in the United States can strip search anyone that they arrest. It doesn’t matter how minor the crime is and it doesn’t matter if they suspect that you have contraband on you or not. The Supreme Court even said that you can be strip searched if you have been arrested for a traffic violation. Any type of arrest will do. Once you are arrested, if the police want to strip off your clothes and see you naked there is not a thing you can do about it. You can read the entire Supreme Court decision right here. Considering the fact that 13 million Americans are put in jail at some point each year, this is a very frightening thing. The notion that we are all “innocent until proven guilty” is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Thanks to the Supreme Court, it is now legal for the police to strip search you any time they want. All they have to do is find some excuse to arrest you. And considering the fact that almost everything is illegal in America, that is not hard to do. America continues to become a very dark place in 2012, and very few people are speaking up in defense of liberty and freedom.
But don’t the police need probable cause before they search you? Aren’t we protected against unreasonable searches by the U.S. Constitution? After all, the 4th Amendment says the following….
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Unfortunately, not even the Supreme Court seems to care much about the U.S. Constitution anymore.
As I have written about previously, in the “new America” you don’t get any rights.
Instead, the government gives you a limited number of “privileges” that it can revoke at any time.
The story of the man that was at the heart of the Supreme Court case mentioned above demonstrates this. His name was Albert Florence and he was arrested for not paying a fine that he had already paid.
But the fact that he was innocent didn’t seem to matter too much to the police. They held him in prison for six days and strip searched him twice. The following is how CNN describedwhat Florence went through after his arrest….
Court records show Florence was subjected to an invasive strip and visual body-cavity search. He was then held for six days in the county lockup before being transferred to a Newark correctional facility, where, he claims, he was subjected to another more intrusive search before being placed in the general prison population.
“It was very disgusting. It was just a bad, bad experience,” he told CNN’s Kate Bolduan recently. “I was just told, ‘Do as you’re told.’ Wash in this disgusting soap and obey the directions of the officer who was instructing me to turn around, lift my genitals up, turn around, and squat.”
Are you upset when you read that?
You should be.
You see, this is how totalitarian governments act. Totalitarian regimes love to dehumanize and humiliate their “detainees” by stripping them naked.
So when we see this kind of behavior by authorities in the United States we should be very concerned.
And when we see the U.S. Supreme Court giving the stamp of approval to this kind of activity, we should be sounding the alarm.

DEAR PRESIDENT OBAMA
Hesh Goldstein
Natural News
April 10, 2012
Dear President Obama:
We the people have stated resolutely that we reject your vision for our country.
You claim you have not heard us.
We, the people, have assembled across America resisting your efforts to subvert our Constitution and undermine our liberty.
You claim you have not seen us.
Since you have not acknowledged our message, allow us to present it once more.
For if, as President Wilson once said, “a leaders’ ear must ring with the voices of the people”, that time has come.
Our greatest treasure is freedom. The absence of restraints, and our ability to think and to act. The corollary of freedom is individual responsibility. We believe in the power of the individual.
A few years ago President Bush said, “History moves toward freedom because the desire for freedom is written in every human heart”.
Let us add that we will preserve it only as long as devotion to freedom is expressed in the heart of our actions.
When President Lincoln dedicated Gettysburg National Cemetery, he declared, “It is for us, the living, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus so nobly advanced. Their unfinished cause for which our soldiers willingly go to battle and for which so many have given their lives is a free United States of America”.
It has been nearly 150 years and the work President Lincoln spoke of is not finished. In fact, that work will never be finished.
Freedom is the capacity for self-determination. It Is not an entity, but a condition. And conditions change. Freedom can expand and so can it contract.
You promised change when you took office Mr. President. But subjugation is not the change we wanted or will accept.
You have expanded government, violated our Constitution, confounded laws, seized private industry, destroyed jobs, perverted our economy, curtailed free speech, corrupted our currency, weakened our national security, endangered our sovereignty and sold out to large corporations by hiring their former employees and attorneys’ to head government agencies.
By compromising our nation’s cultural, legal and economic institutions, you are insuring that our children will never achieve the same quality of life as we enjoy today.
Through generational theft you are robbing the unborn of opportunity. This is not acceptable. Not in America.
We did not become a strong nation through hope but rather through self-reliance. No one better understands the relationship between individual achievement, dignity and strength then our armed forces.
Through every war our soldiers have helped this nation’s destiny by placing it in their hands. They have not failed us. They cherish freedom enough that they are willing to die for it.
Our duty to them and to ourselves is to treasure freedom enough to live up to it.
We accept the challenge Mr. President. That is why we are assembling across the land to deliver our message to you as often and in every way we can.
Dismiss us at your political peril. Our great nation is a republic and we will not accept tyranny in any way, shape, or form.
Your policy to redistribute the fruits of our labor is akin to socialism and will not be tolerated.
By our honor, Mr. President, we vow forever to resist coercive government in America. Patriots will not stand silent as you attempt to dismantle the greatest nation on earth.
We, the people, will defend our liberties, we will protect our beloved country and America’s strength and ideals will prevail.
God bless the United States of America.
Sincerely,
We the People!

STOCKTON TAKES DOWN TWO MORE WITH HELP FROM U.S. MARSHALS
MIND MASTERY
STOCKTON, CA - Stockton police officials said a recent effort to reduce deadly violence has led to the arrest of 32 people on the city's most wanted list.
Several U.S. Marshals have been helping police track the city's most dangerous criminals for the past several weeks. Federal help arrived in Stockton as part of Mayor Ann Johnston's Marshall Plan.
Among the 32 people arrested, 11 were, at one time, on the "Top 10 of Most Wanted" list. Two men arrested Wednesday were part of that list.
Javier Corona was arrested in connection to a murder that happened in the parking lot of a south Stockton shoe store.
U.S. Marshals also arrested Steven Fernandez Domingo on Wednesday.
Officer Pete Smith said the success of the effort is not a surprise.
"They're not answering calls for service, the 1,100 calls we get every day," Smith said. "They're focused on the list, running down leads, and focused on the intelligence as it comes in. When you can do that in law enforcement, you'll be successful."
