Colorado secession petition has 21,900 signatures

By Allison Sherry
Denver Post

WASHINGTON — The desire to secede from the union is older than the United States itself — but technology has made the effort a lot easier.

Some 21,900 people have signed an online petition submitted to the White House "peacefully" asking the federal government to grant the state of Colorado permission to secede from the United States and create its own government.

It was started by "Lynette A." in Golden and has been signed by thousands of people using just one name all across the nation — not just the Centennial State — who have likely signed similar petitions for the two dozen or so other states that have submitted similarly worded requests.

"Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and institute new government," the petition says.

This form of rebellion isn't new. White House officials say every year people submit petitions for state secession
— they usually arrive around the time of a presidential election that undoubtedly a large percentage of the country is unhappy with.

RAND PAUL: GOP NEEDS RON PAUL SUPPORTERS TO GROW

RAND PAUL: GOP NEEDS RON PAUL SUPPORTERS TO GROW
Reports The Des Moines Register:

Sen. Rand Paul, in Des Moines today, said if the Republican Party wants to grow, it needs to include supporters of his father who bring different views on certain issues.

“People talk about it being a big tent – having a big tent means bringing in the Ron Paul people. And if you do, your party will grow,” he said…

Drew Ivers, a Ron Paul campaign official in Iowa, called the changes “growing pains” that are offset by the benefits of growing the party. He said people new to politics can be “zealous” and don’t always understand customary procedures, but they will learn with experience.

Paul spoke at an event sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, a super-PAC that opposes President Obama’s green energy agenda…

Sen. Paul is right. The Ron Paul people are not only growing the GOP–they’re transforming it.

Stockton Should boost its Image with Jobs

Stockton city leaders met for a town hall meeting with residents, and together they discussed the ongoing financial challenges that are facing the city.

The meeting lasted more than two hours, and Mayor Ann Johnston and City Manager Bob Dies answered the questions posed by the 100 or so attendees. They even waited out a protest by representatives of the Occupy movement.

Throughout the meeting, city officials stressed the steps being taken now do not mean the city is heading to bankruptcy. In fact, the AB 506 process is designed to avoid bankruptcy. However, they presented three options for a balanced budget: deep cuts to personnel and salaries, a successful AB 506 negotiation, or bankruptcy. The city has until July 1 to adopt a balanced budget.

Should the city look to further impose cuts on employees, the city would have to cut 64 police officers, close two fire stations, and instill other cuts. In the opinion of the city leaders, those cuts are both unsafe and unwise.

Meanwhile Barack Obama, Overstays his Welcome in Afghanistan.
